Trincomali Residence

The Trincomali Residence is sited on a steep coastal slope and approached from above. From the road, the house reads as a single-storey volume defined by a butterfly roof. The upper floor aligns closely with grade, while two additional levels step down the cliff toward the water. The rear of the structure is built into the slope, providing stability and minimizing the visual scale from the uphill side.

On the water-facing elevation, the full height of the three-storey form is apparent. Each level is oriented toward the view, with glazing positioned to bring consistent daylight into the interior. The sectional organization allows the house to remain compact at the top while expanding outward and downward toward the channel.

The main living level is arranged for direct access to the exterior. A full sliding door system along the dining room wall opens wide to the deck, allowing the outdoor area to function as part of the primary living space. This provides flexibility for seasonal use and improves natural ventilation.

Polished concrete floors run throughout the house, selected for durability, low maintenance, and thermal performance. The stair to the upper level is detailed to appear as though it emerges directly from the wall, reinforcing the clean lines of the interior and limiting visual clutter.

The home incorporates a grey water recycling system to support responsible water use, an important consideration in this region.
