Montague Residence
The Montague Residence was constructed in collaboration with Jennifer Marshall of Urban Arts Architecture. The house is set into a rocky bank above the harbour and required substantial structural work to anchor it properly into the site. Fourteen-foot concrete foundation walls support the uphill side of the building. Limited site access prevented the use of ready-mix or pumper trucks, so concrete placement and material handling were managed on site. The project required careful sequencing and coordination to meet engineering requirements under those constraints.
The compound curve roof was a defining element of the design and required custom fabrication. Concealed fastener metal panels were used, with every sixth panel custom-formed on site to accommodate the geometry.
Detail:
The west side of the residence features an extensive glazing program and expressive canopy.
Key Features
Polished concrete floors with radiant heating and two-storey sandstone fireplace
Custom compound curve metal roof with on-site fabricated panels
Vaulted ceiling with custom glazing and site-built fir detailing

A suspended pedestrian bridge spans the natural rock outcrop at grade, leading to a restrained office entry that maintains the home’s low profile within the landscape.
The interior is organized around a two-storey sandstone fireplace. A suspended walkway connects upper rooms across the main living space. Accordion doors open the dining area to the deck, and polished concrete floors with radiant heating run throughout the home.
