Little Parker Island

This timber frame home was constructed on a small island site with no road access. All crew, equipment, and materials were transported by barge. Careful scheduling and coordination were required throughout the project to manage deliveries and maintain workflow in an isolated setting.

The timber frame structure was fabricated off-site and assembled on location.

Close coordination with the frame supplier ensured accurate installation and alignment. During erection, adjustments were made to improve the visual balance of the structure. Additional non-structural posts and beams were fabricated and installed to strengthen the overall composition and better align with the clients’ expectations.

Key Features

Post and beam timber frame assembled on remote island site

Cedar shingle roof with decks integrated around existing trees

Sandstone fireplace built from locally sourced stone

Wide plank maple flooring throughout

Exterior and interior finishes were executed to support the clarity of the post and beam system. Detailing was kept straightforward so the structure remained the primary element within the interior. When selected interior doors became unavailable, new doors were made on site to maintain consistency in material and proportion.

The interior is defined by an almost entirely wood finish palette, with exposed post and beam framing throughout and large wood-framed windows that bring consistent natural light into the space while reinforcing the structural expression.

The building was positioned to retain as much of the surrounding forest as possible. Existing trees were preserved, including those integrated through portions of the deck structure. The cedar shingle roof and restrained exterior finish allow the house to sit quietly within its setting.
