Active Pass Renovation
This project was a substantial renovation and partial second-floor addition completed within the home’s original footprint. Working directly with the owners, we increased usable space while maintaining the existing building envelope.
The addition required significant concrete work to reinforce the structure. We retained the existing roof over part of the house while reconfiguring the walls below to accommodate new window and door openings.
The main floor structure reflects a balance between engineering requirements and the owners’ design intent. Laminated veneer lumber was specified for strength; to achieve the desired expression of exposed timber trusses, we added framing and clad the faceted structure in edge-grain fir plywood.

Overlooking Active Pass, the second-floor addition expands the glazing to capture light and water views.
